Artist's Description

"Fall Dahlia" was created in my North Carolina garden. I practice mindful photography. When I am out and about, I see what "calls to me" to be experienced. This dahlia was just waiting to have a moment with me and posed for its portrait. The end of day light was just right on the flower, and was allowing the leaves around it to become very dark. A touch of processing made it easy to darken the background leaves further, mirroring my actual experience of this flower. I loved the intricacies of the petal and thought that this black and white version helped these intricacies speak.

If you print on paper, please spring for one of the premium papers, especially Cool Tone Picture Rag or Somerset Velvet, as the prints are much richer on better paper. This image would also look lovely printed on metal (glossy), glossy paper, or canvas. I have it hanging in my own home on printed on glossy metal, without framing, for a clean, contemporary look.

Such encounters include the varieties of emotions evoked, often different for each person. She is...
